What to Expect
Therapy
You have your own goals, talents, strengths, and challenges. Your therapy needs to be tailored to who you are and what you want to achieve.
Therapy at Healthy Connections doesn’t look the same for any two people. We are committed to meeting the unique needs of each person by taking a holistic approach to mental health care. We accomplish this by getting to know you and collaboratively identifying treatment goals and intervention approaches. We will be honest with you.
Psychological therapy can be hard, requires commitment, and is sometimes uncomfortable. We are committed to supporting you through the difficult parts and ready to celebrate with you when small and large goals are achieved.
Therapy approaches
The clinicians at Healthy Connections are highly trained professionals, all with an insatiable desire to know more about the human experience so they can be a better support to you. We value learning and are trained in a wide range of evidence-based treatment approaches, including:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-e)
Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (Plan B) Therapy
Your first session
Please arrive at your appointment 10-15 minutes early. Our welcoming Client Care team will greet you, answer any questions, and assist with your referral (if you have one).
At this initial appointment, you and your therapist (or your child’s therapist) will spend around 80 minutes together. This longer appointment gives you and your therapist the time needed to undertake a comprehensive assessment, openly discuss your concerns, understand your goals, and answer questions you might have. Our experienced clinicians will work closely with you to understand your unique needs, creating a foundation for a collaborative and effective therapeutic journey ahead.
Whether it’s your first-time seeking therapy or you’re familiar with the process, our team is dedicated to ensuring you feel comfortable, heard, and empowered throughout your experience with us.
Length of therapy
The duration of psychological therapy and coaching varies widely due to issue complexity, treatment goals, motivation, and the influence of external factors. Instant solutions are extremely rare, and lasting change requires regular attendance and skill implementation outside sessions. Your therapist will discuss the likely length of treatment with you and will review progress throughout your intervention.
Finding the right therapist for you
In the same way that no two clients are alike, neither are therapists!
Healthy Connections therapists are adaptive so we can adjust our approaches to better meet your needs. But we know that not every client and clinician will have the right chemistry for effective therapy, so our matching process is an integral part of your Healthy Connections experience.
If you, or your therapist, believe another clinician would be better suited to help you achieve your goals, we’ll work together to facilitate a change.
